Run Report
Kennel **Hash House Harriets Penang** gathered for Run #2742 on 30 April at Bkt Jambul — the last hash of April and conveniently parked one day before Labour Day. Naturally, everyone decided to labour extra hard getting stuck in traffic. By 5:30pm sharp, fewer than five sinners had made it to runsite. GM took one look at the empty car park, skipped the usual circle drama, and barked, “Run first, complain later!” Off we went like unpaid interns.
Run setters had laid a trail starting from the charming pumpkin/starfruit farm that quickly turned into a vertical punishment plan up to **Bukit Kukus** summit (approx. 426m). What started as scenic countryside became a relentless calf-burning staircase to heaven. The climb from the farm upwards was so steep even our excuses ran out of breath. Elevation gain clocked around 539m over 4.1km, and it took most of us more than 1½ hours to crawl, slide, and question our life choices to the top. Views were fantastic, but nobody had enough oxygen left to appreciate them properly.
Back at runsite, salvation arrived in the form of Hare’s authentic Bengali bread feast. Carbs never tasted so holy. After dinner, the long-delayed circle finally happened with proper down-down justice. Big welcome splashes for our new member Ann and returning warrior Palani — clearly they chose the wrong/eager day to (re)join the family. Songs were loud, accusations louder, and beer mysteriously disappeared very quickly for a small crowd of 20.
Next week we migrate to Charlie Market — hopefully with less traffic and less vertical torture.
**Verdict:** Brutal climb, scenic suffering, excellent bread, and classic hash chaos. On On — and next time, less mountain and more mercy.**
