Run Report

Back to our old stomping ground at Shamrock, where 25 loyal hashers and 6 curious guests assembled with suspicious enthusiasm and questionable fitness. Before the off, we received sobering news: our beloved GM Emeritus took a tumble on the dry leaves at Bukit Gambir during last Tuesday’s hash. We’re all wishing her a speedy recovery and a swift return to abuse, beer, and bad decisions. You’re missed already! Bunny Tina promised us a “short run.” Veterans immediately translated that to mean “someone is going to suffer.” True enough, the last three runners crawled back to the runsite in the dark, guided only by torchlight and regret. Proof once again of the sacred Hash law: **never believe what a hasher says before the run**. Yes, the distance was only 4 km. But with a brutal 454 m elevation, this was no stroll in the park. It separated the hikers from the whiners, and the regulars from the “I-thought-this-was-just-a-jog” beginners. For some, it was character-building. For others, it was character-destroying. For me? A fantastic sweat and a thoroughly satisfying climb. Special applause to two ever-kind souls, General and Nutcracker, who took great care of a device-forgetting GM and a first-time guest all the way from London. That’s the Hash spirit right there—confuse them on the trail, rescue them on the way back. Back at base, delicious dinner awaited, followed by a lively down-down circle where lies grew taller and stories got funnier. Huge thanks to our Bunny Tina for a great run, great fun, and generously subsidized beers to keep morale (and volume) high. **Verdict: Short run my foot. Brutal climb. Excellent care. Even better beer. On On — see you next week at Bukit Jambul!**
